Helpful starting points for Veterans and families preparing for the VA disability claim process.

What Is A Nexus Letter?

A nexus letter is an important part of a VA disability claim. It is a detailed medical opinion written by a qualified healthcare provider that helps link a veteran’s current medical condition to their military service. This letter serves as crucial evidence when applying for VA disability benefits, especially if the connection between the condition and service isn’t clearly documented in existing medical or service records.

At Veterans First Disability Medical Examiners, our licensed medical professional, Amy Hawley, FNP-BC, carefully reviews each veteran’s medical history, service records, and supporting documentation to prepare a clear, evidence-based nexus letter. The goal is to demonstrate that it is “at least as likely as not” that the veteran’s disability was caused or aggravated by their military service.

A strong nexus letter can make a significant difference in the outcome of a VA claim — providing the clarity and professional medical backing needed to help veterans receive the benefits they’ve earned.
